OBJECTIVE:

To assist non-profit agencies obtain out-side funding for the development and implementation of innovative and necessary programs and projects for at-risk and special population groups. The intent is to improve the quality of life for those who are facing challenges, those who have "fallen through the cracks", and those who are seeking a means for self-improvement and self-realization.
 

BACKGROUND:

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and now residing in Michigan’s rural Thumb area. Education includes 5 years at Ohio State University with a major in English and a minor in Sociology, and a BA degree from Saginaw Valley State University also with a major in English and a minor in sociology.

While serving in the Peace Corps in Honduras, Central America, after outward-bound training in Puerto Rico, as well as Community Development training at the University of Illinois, New Harmony, Indiana, returned to Cleveland to establish, with a grant from the Cleveland Foundation, a self-help agency for the Spanish speaking population.

In Michigan, developed and wrote a Title VII nutrition grant for Bay County, which became the first senior citizen nutrition program in Michigan, and one of the first twenty in the nation. As Director of the Bay County Council on Aging for 7 years, started the program with a staff of 3 and a $60,000 grant, and left the agency with a budget of l/2 a million dollars, a staff of sixty and serving in excess of 2,000 senior adults weekly. Developed and won voter approval for the first Senior Citizen Millage in the State of Michigan.


For the Human Development Commission (HDC) in Caro, Michigan, wrote successful grants for:

For the First Baptist Church in Beaufort, S. Carolina -

$50,000 from the Presser Foundation. The Foundation received 1,200 applications from which 3 were funded.

 

For the Regional Educational Media Center (REMC #10) in Cass City, Michigan,

Public Telecommunications Facilities Program, $198,000

 

REMC’s Thumb Area Television (TATV)

wrote and produced a 2-hour live special, "Winter Weather Preparedness in Michigan’s Thumb Area" which was also aired on 3 local radio stations. Involved was the National Weather Service, Emergency Managers, the United States Coast Guard, a local Physician and the NBC-25 meteorologist.
